A copywriter who I worked with around 40 years ago contacted me to work on this logo, to be used on a product he invented for America’s 250 anniversary – an illuminated flagpole (see https://onenationflag.com). Working with him again as a “team” brought me back to our Philadelphia Ad Agency days, where we would collaborate back and forth to come up with the best creative ideas, laughing and smiling all along because it was always fun. I used to joke about how his name was “Art” but I was the one who did the art!
For this logo, Art came up with the concept of having the vertical stroke of the “5” form a flagpole, with the top of the “5” being a flag. I suggested we extend the flag to the right and make it wave and go through the hole of the “0”. I felt this would make it more dynamic-looking. I also designed it with a type treatment that reminded us both of the 1776 days, where often some numerals hung down below the baseline. (Full disclosure: Art actually liked a very slight variation of the logo shown, but told me I could use this one for my own self-promotion.) Just goes to show you…after 40+ years, we still make a great team!
This campaign created for Meals On Wheels Delaware was awarded the 2016 BEST OF SHOW Award in the Association of Fundraising Professionals competition. This prestigious award will be formally presented on November 15, 2016 at the AFP Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon.

Typographic Word Clouds around images connect and creatively express the subject matter, emotions and spirit of each of New Freedom Theatre's 2016 Season of plays and musicals.
Yes, it’s nice to enjoy the finer things in life while you are trying to help those less fortunate. To attract donors and attendees to this Planned Parenthood fundraiser, this invitation combines images of a delectable swirl of chocolate and a sparkling glass of champagne. Graphic elements of stripes and polka-dots complement the color scheme. Swirly typographic swashes in the event title enhance the elegant theme. Circular “bubbles” were used to highlight special info about the event.
The festival was a success, despite taking place on the same weekend as the pope’s visit to the area!
This invitation set, created pro-bono for Congregation B'nai Tikvah – Beth Israel, tied for First Place in the 2015 Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) competition, which judges not only creativity, but also successful outcomes. This event was a phenomenal success, with a profit of over $21,000 (far exceeding it's original goal of $3,500), and it was sold out in 2 weeks after the invitations were mailed out.
